Unit 32 Assignment 1

What is an indent ?
-Short video clip that identifies a channel
-Graphic
-Channel logo

ITVBE - aimed at women with girly colours and shows.

E4 - makes the indent weird and eye-catching
     - Brand identity (quirky,different)

BBc 1

Why do we use indents ?
- Give it an identity
-Make the channel more core specific
-Tells you when the programme is going to start
-Specific to the demographic of the programmes
-Tool for marketing
-Keep it interesting

Aimed at men

What is the purpose of an indent ?
 -To persuade
 -Marketing tool
-Consistency to make sense and give it a familiar feel.
-Idents are breaks to break the programme up so it reminds people about when a programme is coming on next.
-Idents also are more common on bbc as they do not have adverts to keep the viewer interested.
-Helps to map out the sechdualing of the programmes

people start to talk about it so it gets around with word of mouth.
share price gets increased and then more money is earned to spend on improving the current indents
restructure the contract to make it more in your favour and make it so it benefits you.

Limitation for a designer
-Create an ident for ashton tv
-aimed at 16 to 18 year olds
-Have to keep a colour, timescale and audience in mind
- Knowledge
- Software
- Bad reputation for inconsistency, failure and poor skill set
- Might not fit the brief of the channel
- Brief may not be clear and critisiems may not direct

3 idents i think are rubbish

I think that this ident makes no sense and has no particular audience, it also looks to have a very dull colour wash which isnt very eye catching or appealing. This does not refect well on what the channel is about and what programmes are shown which makes this ident a very inappropriate thing to have.

To improve this ident i would add lots more bright colours and make it fit the identity of the channel more, also i would change what the men are doing so that it would fit into a specific audience.

This ident again does not fit the channel style and looks very childish and implies that the channel is aimed at a younger audience than the one it is meant for. This could then misinform the audience and they would get the wrong idea about what bbc3 is about.
To improve this ident i would make it more age appropriate for the audience which watches bbc3 to introduce even more people to the channel and properly represent the programmes which are shown on bbc3

BBC 4 Ident
-Design (colours,text,speed,space)
-What is it used for ? (audience targeted)
-Creative (most creative parts,brand identity)
-Compare (Which of the suite was most creative ?) (better at targeting) (more suitable for a genre programme)

*fast paced
*hand transition
*nature (close up of squid, wide shot of water fall, different colours on each slide)
* same bbc4 text

Sell nature/documentaries (footage looks factual)
Persuasive (shows a wide range of interesting images
Extreme close up of octopus (creative)
Shot of lizard (hand moves with lizard)
BBC4 is and exciting, interesting, creative and unusual channel
Cultural interests
Black and White = serious, focused and sensible.

Chilled out slow paced
Birds move in different and unique way at 0:11.
seagulls flying about looks different, strange unique.
music in background different and unique.
Black box keep the identity of the channel
freedom to run, swim in the culture
distorted blury and black 00:2 - 00:6 (makes you think your dreaming)
Audio - created sea imagery - (10-18 secs)
show the difference of bbc4 from other channels and show that the channel is not always clear.
how the colour wash and water scale is used in the advert is not normal.
mid shot of seagulls flying above the water.
dark more serious colour wash makes it look more focused and sensible
Audience is typical audience of bbc4 as it has cultural interests and a debate can be formed around what is happening on the ident
Showcase genre programme, documentary, get audience thinking
reflect cultural programmes the channel shows
high brow culture
sea and seagull noises make you feel like your at the beach.
supports identy of culture innovation.

Quite slow paced but serious with the bell chimes
bright and normal colours.
animals used with the sea showing nature
roman numerals used for more factual and clever feel( channel more educated people)
Size increases from 00:1 up to 0:12 of the images on screen
Pictures in the ident spell out the name of the channel and each chime in rung every time another letter
is put up. this is through out the ident.
Things going on in all the frame of the ident.
sound effects to match the images.

I think the first ident was most creative as it had the best ideas and looked the most different and it had features which were clever with the rock lifting and showing different images, the hand also being used as a transitional device

I think that the second one was the best at targeting the audience as it has the most pull with the cultural side of the views of the channel and gets them interested in the programmes which the channel is shown.

In comparison i feel that the first one was the most creative as it was the most different and unique and people will always remember what is happening in that ident and what channel it is for which will make them stay on the channel and continue to watch.

Idea one
*Scientist looking at the channel logo on a table
*big bright light shinning down on it
*being examined like an animal
*all you can see is the hands with rubber gloves
*mainly dull and boring colored in the background
*aimed at people who like those shows.
This idea would be more focused on the channels logo and highlight that so people would know what the channels logo looks like, this would be aimed at more younger audience.

Idea 2
*Bins with happy faces
*music plays when there are touched
*3 bins each make different sound
*showing music is in everything
*bright and happy colours
Three bins with faces have like bright nice colors and it is in beat with the music and changes the camera angle from birds eye view to close up.

Idea 3
*people dancing from different nationalities
*showing music can unite people from different cultures
*again bright and happy
*nice and friendly
*showing he culture of itv
*dancing in different places using green screen
*mainly countries in europe

for all the ideas very brief

Production diary : I looked at idents which were already on the itv channel and ones which were on music channels and tried to merge the two together to get the best of both so that it would appeal to both the audiences who watch itv and music channels like mtv etc .... i also looked at some types of music that may be appropriate for the itv channel i looked at mainstream chart music and then other less known indie tracks, i decide to do mainstream as it would gain the biggest audience and then actually make the itv channel compare with the current big music channels.

why does ofcom link with our programme

Of com has a big part on our programme as we try to follow specific parts more carefully than other for example, section nine - commercial references will not be included in our programme as it would be useless and will probably not get used in our programme.

One big part of the of com broadcasting code which will be used is section 1 as it is aimed at 18 year olds and younger this makes a large percent of the target audience under 18 and therefore by the broadcasting code makes us how we present the programme and what language is used is the show while also watching what is shown in the show is suitable for all age groups of the target audience.

Another part of the broadcasting code which does link in with our programme is section
6 - Due impartiality and due accuracy and undue prominence of views and opinions, this section will be used as it has a lot to do with the programme and would be quite useful in our programme as we have lots of different sections where some information is given and we cannot show a biased opinion about what is said as it may cause problems with some of the audience.

This links the of com broadcasting code quite strongly which is a good thing for the future as if we ever gone on to direct a TV show or something we will already be very familiar with what the of com broadcasting code is and how to properly follow the sections of it easier, this will also help us make the programme better as it will have been properly produced following the code so it does not offend or upset anyone watching.

Section 3 will be a big part as-well as part of our programme is news and what is happening crime will be a big part however in the programme it will have to be put across in a serious way, this is so that it doesn't end up encourage or incite a crime to be committed similar to the one which is being reported or because of the one which is being reported but still sticking to a way which the younger target audience will find interesting.

One of the only parts which will not really be used is the fairness as this programme which we are making is not going to actually go to of-com and go through the stages of of com broadcasting code the fairness part doesn't really apply as being the broadcaster and the producer of the programme nothing can be treated unfairly, this will also apply to the actors in the TV show as it is not properly like a normal TV show.

A key section of the code is religion and this if treated poorly or wrongly can end a programme by upsetting a large audience percentage and cause lots of fuss and trouble if treated badly, this is one which is not being touched on to much in the programme and aiming to avoid bringing it up/mention it as the programme is for everyone.

These are the ones which mainly affect the TV show which we are making, these are also some of the main ones which can make major changes in a TV show the others are mainly about advertising during the show which won't effect the programme in the slightest as it won't have any adverts in.

Studio production presentation

http://prezi.com/z0v_o_s58ipq/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share

Jade: Our idea was to make a show for younger people, both genders aged 10 to about 18. It's going to be informative, telling the audience about weekly news, sport and music highlights as well as viral news and fashion.

Examples of how the audience will be targeted.
Will : The audience will be targeted by us talking about topics and issues that are relevant to our target audience age range of 10-18.
Our music segment will target both genders and a youth age upwards, 13-20. The band and presenters are also teenagers and the music debate will be aimed at the youth culture and how the perception of music has changed, and overall, has it influenced or hindered todays youth compared to the last few generations.

Ben: The fashion part will target girls aged 15 and up. This is because the fashion being shown will be aimed at women who want to get clothes for lower prices, being on a budget. Mainly for students as they have to be logical about what they can buy and topics like this are useful for those on a budget but still want good clothes.

Callum: The target audience for sport would be mainly males, but females also enjoy watching sports. We'll be featuring the most popular sports such as athletics, rugby, cricket and football to attract a wide audience.
The viral videos segment will target teenagers around 13 to 18, people who are on social networks regularly. Videos from social networking sites such as Youtube and Vine are viewed by a worldwide audience. On Youtube, over 4 billion videos are viewed everyday. We are targeting this audience because it's a wide audience with a variety of different people (young, old, male, female).

Why the audience will like the programme
Freddie: The audience will like our programme because we have segments for both genders and different kinds of people. For example we have sports which targets a male audience as well as fashion which will attract a female one.

Jade: There's nothing out there right now that's like this, presented by the age range of the target audience and covers so many topics, each segment will be 2 to 3 minutes long so the audience won't get bored and the programme will flow well making it enjoyable for them to watch.

Examples of genre.
Bilal: Our program targets many different genres such comedy, news, sport, fashion and music.

For the comedy aspect we are taking inspiration from celebrity juice, we are doing this by taking the challenges that and games that they use on the show, for example we are getting our presenters to go out into public dressed up and busking.

We are going to incorporate a news segment in our show discussing the news that is going on in that week to help inform the audience. we will be taking inspiration from BBC news but we hope to make it slightly different by making it more fun and current for younger people, for example talking about celebrity news.

Matt: We are going to have a segment that dedicated to sport which would target our male audiences. We will talk about the latest news that is going on in sport for example scores of recent football matches along with other sports.

We are also doing a fashion and beauty part to the program to target the female audience where our presenters will tell the audience about fashion tips and celebrity's fashion and beauty trends that they can get for cheaper.

For our music we are taking inspiration from shows such as later with Jools Holland where acts will perform live in the studio and we will ask them questions about their act.

Why ours is quirky/creative/important.
Alex: It is a fun and good idea because it is different and unique to all other shows which are similar. We're including a challenge and forfeit which will be fun for the viewers to watch.
It's creative because we've incorporated all of our ideas and merged them together to form one, so we've all had an input on the idea and we've all been able to make something our own in it.
Finally it is important as it informs all generations about what is happening in a way which they will all understand and respond well to how it is presented and put across to the audience

Visuals and what we'll be talking about.
Jess: All our segments will be presented in front of the green screen, or next to the TV if we're cutting to a VT. We'll be talking about a range of topics from sport and the weeks news, to fashion and music along with a challenge similar to what you get on youtube so that our programme will target a wide range of people.

Ofcom broadcasting and powerpoint part

The of-com broadcasting code is something which all programmers have to follow when broadcasting on british television, there are many different sections to the broadcasting code which are
1. Protecting under 18s
2. Offensive language on radio
3. Harm and offence
4. Crime
5. Religion
6. Due impartiality and due accuracy and undue prominence of views and opinions
7. Elections and referendums
8. Fairness
9. Privacy
10. Commercial references in television programming
11. Commercial communication in radio programming

1. Protecting under 18s
This part of the code is all about watching out for underage people and what then can see being broadcast and what times they think a programme should be on at, this also covers how much they think is appropriate for under 18s to watch including how much violence substance and alcohol abuse is shown and similar themes.

2. Offensive language on radio
This is similar to the first part of the code by again aiming to protect underage people and watch what is said on the radio, this includes lyrics in music tracks, live music performances/interviews and general conversations in the studio and finally comedy content and sketches.

3. Harm and offence
In this section it focuses on how much harm and offence are put into the broadcast such as violence and the use of certain jokes and language, this is the responsibility of the broadcaster to make sure that it doesn't go to far and end up causing trouble or/and offending the audience or upsetting them. This however also goes for the adverts shown between the show, they must be suitable for the show for which they are in between.

4. Crime
The crime section is one of the most important as when broadcasting a programme the broadcaster has to be careful not to put anything in which could lead to an actual crime being committed from it or which may cause a disorder, this is very important as if something messes up the outcome can be very bad and then can cause lots of legal problems for the broadcaster.

5. Religion
Despite not being harmful or offence of com has been told by the government to watch the section carefully as religion can be show such as preying and worship etc ... but it can cause lots of uproar and trouble as if in anyway people see it as being exploited or insulted they will complain and blame the programme but mainly the broadcasters and of com as it would seem that they have done nothing. however if the religion is properly respected and done correctly but not to a stereotype way it can have a big advantage on a programme.

6. Due impartiality and due accuracy and undue prominence of views and opinions
Basically what the section is, is when in broadcasting you have to be fair to both sides for example if you are broadcasting a documentary or the news you cannot show one side as being better or worst as it can reflect badly and then fall into the harm and offence section also as people may find it offensive and could cause problems.

7. Elections and Referendums
The main aim of this section is to comply with the 2003 communications act so that nothing gets broken, this is not to difficult as the broadcasting code already follows most of these rules.

8. Fairness
This part is to watch out so that the broadcasters are not treated unfairly and are treated with respect, and also this is meant for the shows broadcast as it goes for what is in the programme and isn't dismissed because it looks at a specific topic. One only way round it is if it is justified by a very good reason and then and only then can a decision be made.

9.Privacy
This part is mainly about the broadcasters themselves and what they are aloud to keep private from the channels and what information is aloud to be told and which is aloud to be kept private, this is also connected with the broadcasters avoiding unwarranted and unknown infringement laws to protect them just incase they need to change something in the broadcast to avoid it causing issues with people and the station which it is broadcasting from.

why is our idea fun, quirky and important ?

It is a fun and good idea because it is different and unique to all other shows which are similar while having everything for everyone to enjoy viewing the broadcast eg ... music, important news, sports and film and television and others.

It is quirky as it is not like anything else and has bits for everyone to enjoy like it is not normal but is fun and different and something out of the ordinary.

Finally it is important as it informs all generations about what is happening in a way which they will all understand and respond well to how it is presented and put across to the audience

unit 33 stop-motion Lee hardcastle

What genre is the animation and what generic conventions (things you expect to see) can you pull out?
What do you notice about the movement of the figures body?
What do you notice about the movement of the figures face and facial expression?
What comments can you make about the use of sound?

lLee hardcatle the raid: Style claymation
Audience: Teenagers young adults
The genre of the stop-motion was action by the use of gun props and explosions with also lots of fighting

The movement of the figures looked very complex and had lots of figures moving at once with stiff movement, with all the figures shuffling about as they were made of clay. This is because they are made of clay.
The arms are moved very human like but because they dont have legs they have broken a principal of animation (arcs) for enjoyment and humour, followed arc principal so they could hold the props to create realism
shot cat  (follows the principal of gravity)

Facial
         Sweat-followed principal of gravity:effect of realism-tension
Facial expression used for attention to detail to make the effect is so we can see the sense of character.

Sound
well synced
gun fire- realism sounds like real gun
cat sounds- cat screaming and dialogue
spx- explosions, blood splatter, siren,
non diagetic sound- backing track.

Old and New.

The main difference in the two stopmotions is the quality level between the two and how significantly is has improved in 60 years and how much smoother and more synced lots of the stuff with the animation is, at 0:37 in the king kong one you can see the stop-motion being projected behind the woman who is acting which makes the stop-motion look very fake and surreal  however in the creature comforts one you can see how everything looks very synced and even tho it is made with clay still looks more realistic than the king kong one. Lots of jerky movement in king kong ( 2:05)  The model detail is also very different as you can see how much more the models in creature comforts are than in king kong.

The similarities between the two are that they both have surreal aspects in them and also use animals as part of the stop-motion, being in the king kong one with a giant ape and dinosaur are fighting each other and then in the creature comforts one with the animals being able to talk like a human.  king kong (1:20) Creature comforts (0:50 )  Background stuff happening in both which is called secondary action. Both claymation and both have similar camera shots of where it is filmed.

It is very easy to spot how much improvement has been made with stop motion in the duration of time since king kong to creature comforts some of these improvements include sound being much more in sync with the visual part of the stop motion and the visual part of the stop motion looking much more realistic even though they are made of clay. The progress which has been made over the past 60 years for stop motion is very impressive and if it keeps improving at the rate which it is at the moment it will look very impressive in the next 60 years and stop-motion today will look very un synced and unreal.

King Kong
Time - (43) bad example not realistic looking atall.
Arc - ( 2:04) Good example of arm arching
Overlapping follow through - (1:01) dinosaurs tail moves without body moving
Gravity - (1:15) King kong throws dinosaur over his shoulder and then the dinosaur falls to the floor

Creature comforts
Time - (26) has the dog sat unrealistic on the sofa
Arc - (26) dog and cat are leaning on there hands with there arms bent as an arch
Overlapping - (17) seagulls tails move on there own away from the body
Gravity - (

Unit 33 assignment 1

Stop-motion (clay)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gx7_hrX7FE
Producer:alessandro cardinali
Release date:28th aug 2009
Target audience: the target audience for this would be children as it has lots to appeal to them including the bright colours of the clay figures and the use of the gun props which children especially boys enjoy all that sort of thing.

Stop-motion (old)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jw5is6PEh0
Producer:Ray Harryhausen
Release date: 1936
Target audience: The target audience for this one would be mainly girls who enjoy fairy tails which is most young girls who want to be princesses and all that sort of thing which is why it would appeal to them as they can relate.

Stop-motion (Children)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5zUWaESb20
Producer:The Campaign Palace
Release date: 2009
Target audience: The target audience for this stop-motion would be children as it uses lots of bright colours to keep the attention of the children and has lots of surreal things which majority of children enjoy watching things which are impossible to do in reality.

Stop-motion (Real people)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmFXhvErLPM
Producer: Two guys who dont know it all
Release date: Aug 2007
Target audience: The target audience for this one would probably be teenagers and young adults and they think that they know everything about everything and they never think that they are wrong which would make most teenagers who watch it able to relate to what is happening in the stop-motion and then they would enjoy it more.

Stop-motion is when an object is moved a tiny bit each frame to simulate like the object is moving when it cannot, when stop-motion was first introduced lots of people thought it was magic how these objects would just move about on there own. the creators of stop-motion Albert E Smith and J. Stuart Blackton first started off making Humpty Dumpty with toys and when this hit they decided to make lots of different ones including A haunted house.  Nowadays stop-motion is being used a lot less even tho it is still being used on quite big films such as the corpse bride and caroline it has somewhat died out as the technology is outdated and much better looking things can be animated easier with a lot less work than having over thousands of figures and moving them one by one every frame. however one popular tv programme still uses stop motion, Robot chicken a big and popular tv still uses stop motion in every episode and has no sight in stopping soon.

Bombay bicycle club- Carry me
Released- November 17th 2013
Target audience- young adults and teens/people who enjoy different types of music as the music video is very different and unique than other ones which have been released by the band which could suggest they are trying to reach out to a new audience.

Never stop cycling
Released- July 3rd 2014
Target audience- The target audience for this one is very confusing as it is very strange and different and has a few hidden messages about loneliness and other parts of life which most people find confusing to understand which is why it is so good and unique.

skittles advert
Released- March 6th 2011
Target audience - I would say the target audience for this would be children as it uses lots of bright colours to make the audience have lots of eye contact with it and fix in there mind, but it could also be aimed at artist people types as it could inspire some people.

In the timeline below you can see the development of stop-motion and how much it has changed from the beginnings of the phenakisttoscope to the zoetrope, praxinoscope, kinetoscope and stop-motion and also some of the biggest names in stop motion from the start such as Willis O'Brien, Ray Harryhausen, Aardman animations and Lee hardcastle. There are principals when doing stop-motion animation which are squash and stretch which is when drawn things such as people or animals are given a sense of weight to look like they have actually got that and this also links in with another principal the principal of gravity and how things must follow the laws of gravity to make them look more real, the next principal of animation is Anticipation which is used to prepare the audience for upcoming action and give it more a sense of being real to make it seem more real for the audience for example when you have a golfer before he swings to swing his golf club back to show that he is about to hit it or a runner is getting ready to start running and is leant down readying up. Another principal would be arcs which is when in animation when something moves it looks realistic as the things are or leg forms an arch when it is moved just like it real life to make it look more real and look more real to the audience, Follow through and Overlapping is when in animation something moves without for example in king kong when he is fighting the t-rex he begins to run through the jungle with his arms moving before his legs. Timing is one of the main principals as it can completely change if something looks realistic and something looks fake as anything which is why it is so important for example if you had someone punching someone and then they didn't react for a few frames it would look stupid and wouldn't look realistic to the audience. Some examples of these principals can been seen in the clips below

Title - T shirt war
Creator - Rett and Link
Release date - February 2010
The main audience for this i think would be children and teenagers as it has lots of bright colors which would keep them interested and is eye catching for young children an example of this would be the color of t-shirt which they use throughout the video which consists of lots of different colors shown in the screen shots below

The overlapping and follow through on this stop-motion would be at (36) where the fan on one of there shirts moves without anything else which is a good example, One other key principal is gravity as when one of the shirts has a jenga puzzle on it at (27) it follows the rule of gravity by falling over to the way which it is being blown and falling to the ground not like upwards or anything. The next one which it uses correctly is arches by having them move there arms as you would normally do, one thing however which is wrong would be at (1:24) where one of the shirts catches on fire and ends up burning for much longer than it would without getting bigger which breaks the principal of time.

Title-Pingu igloo adventures
Creator Otmarr Gutmann
Release date 1986
The main audience for this programme would be small children around the age of 3 to about 6 as it has lots of things to appeal to that audience such as again bright and nice colors which most children would find welcoming and eye catching and most of the characters on the show have nice and smiley faces which children will find nice and happy and fun to watch. this programme is very good at following the principals of animation as it uses follow through and over lapping very good moving the feet at the same time as the body to make it look realistic as they could, another thing which they stook to well was the gravity principal in the programme as you can see in the clip at (37) when pingu knocks the fruit into the pan it falls as it would normally showing they are following the principal of gravity, one thing which it doesn't follow but is still correct in not following is the arc principal as penguins don't bend there arms or legs like that in real life so it makes it more real having them what they do in real life.

Stop motion has been very much improved since it first began as since the principals of stop motion have been introduced it has been made to look much moe realistic and life like and is still improving today, the one thing however which hasn't changed is how long the stop motion takes to produce as a way has not been found on how to speed this process up yet as in one of the latest stop motion films paranorman it took a massive crew a cosierderably long amount of time to complete but looks considerably realistic. This being compared with some of the first stop motions such as rapunzel and ones similar however this can be seen as a bad thing as people like how the stop motion looks different and chopy and some people liked that but now it has got so realistic and some people dislike this fact. Lots of things can make a production better for using stop motion and lots can make it worse such as if you want it to look chopy and unrealistic then stop motion would be good as you can completely control how your characters move and how they do also but if you want it to look realistic and smooth you wouldn't use stop motion as it would be difficult to make it look realistic, another good point would be with stop motion you can do anything you want in a small place and you don't have to go traveling around places you can make your own location however big you want and can make it look good. I feel that stop motion can be good but is not good in all senses.

Title - Hamster hell
Creator - Lee hardcatle
Release date - "2012
The target audience would be teenagers as it contains lots of adult themes such as violence and death and even though it looks OK for children it would probably upset them due to the graphic nature of the animation, this doesn't follow one of the most important themes in stop motion as the arc on the character well the boy does not get followed as when he walks he waddles and does not follow the principal which makes the animation look unrealistic and fake however it does follow the principal of gravity as when the hamster dreams of being on the death coaster at (2:55) you can see when he reaches the top and is upside down he does exactly what would happen in reality and falls down. The follow through and overlap however is very poor as at (3:41) he only moves the legs when he turns as in real life you also turn your body when you kick something and turn which makes it unrealistic for the audience and makes them lose focus.

Video Technology and editing techniques activity 1

High definition tv and film
High definition is when something being transmitted is provided with five times as many pixels as normal television and film, the hd trails started way back in 1930s and has come a very far way by improving picture quality and colour to make the media product look the best it could be. (Source :en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television)

Aspect ratio is a big part of hd as it depends on what quality the media product is at such as if it is higher aspect ratio then the TV or film product is going to look better and if it is smaller it will look worse, it is comanly 2 numbers separated within a colon and can be measured in inches or centermeters. In still photography the ratio is much smaller than on films and TV as the image is.    much smaller and is still, the aspect ratio can be changed when someone zooms in during a film or TV programme it will alter the ratio. (En.wikipedia.org/wiki/aspect_ratio_(image)

There are 5 different types of audio signals which are (video, RF aerial,Audio line, speaker and s-video)
The video signals however are much more complex as they have lots more jobs, the most comman ones are composite which sends standard definition signals to your devices and is a composition as why it is called a composite of 3 signals they are used to connected dvd players vcrs to the television unfortunately it is not a hd signal so the quality can be lost when the signal is transmitted. the next signal is called a component signal and is slightly better than an composite as it is not cramed together it is even placed into 3 parts which are the lumonise and the two color channels, one of the only disadvantages is that separate audio is needed when using component . the final and best is hdmi which allows the best quality to be sent to your device such as game consoles and blue ray players despite being the best they would not use hdmi cables in the industry as it would struggle sending the signal through its cabling longer than 10 meters. The one which is mainly used is hdsdi which basically means it can travel the signal up to much greater distances.

Terrestrail television is radio signals used to broadcast using radio signals which are sent to antenias it was used alot when tvs first came out but as things such as digital and cable have come along not many people used them which is why it was turned off.

There are many different ways to record tv shows such as using a dvd player to record them using a sky + box or something similar to one which makes recording shows much easier by being able todo it with a click of one button.

There are lots of different editing softwares out there some of these include

These are the main and most popular ones which are used in the industry but not one is the best all round as they all have things which they are better for such as aftereffects is much better for adding sfx to something where as finalcut pro is better for editing things together and sorting the order of clips. some reviews of the software can be found at (http://www.videomaker.com/article/17345-apple-final-cut-pro-x-101-review) for final cut pro and it says about the positives and negatives of the software and here is one for aftereffects and it talks again about the same (http://www.creativebloq.com/after-effects/review-after-effects-cc-6133284)

I think that hd will always be better over sd as it makes the product look better with clearer sound although you can travel the sound futher with sd it still is shamed when the quality of the hd is synced with the sound https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20121023211013AAC6xmM this poll shows that much more people would prefer something to be in hd than sd and they give lots of good reasons such as "HD, every kind of game looks better in HD than SD, and all games on PS3/360 run in HD resolution anyway. I didn't get an HDTV until they started to become cheaper a few years ago, before that i used an SD TV with my PS3. When i switched over to the HDTV, everything, even the menus, looked better than they did in SD, it was a big improvement. :)" and "hd,

when i had sd i could barely read the letters and i was so close to the tv too lo"

unit 24 assignment 2 scene by scene breakdown

The first scene begins with a close up on anide's face with him narrating how he hasn't been sleeping and he says about his life how he has had his best friend vonn all of his life and says about his parents. then  he tells us where he works with a cut to a skyscraper and then cuts to anide at the copying the machine in a scruffy/ baggy shirt and tie, cuts back to andie then close up on andie's name on pill bottle with a focus out when andie picks them up tells the audience how he has been taking the pills to help his mental health and then cuts to him in therapy and then a slide away transition shot back to the present then andie says this is how my story actually began and ended.

Andie leaving for work looks across to see a hooded figure close up on andie's face showing confusion and intrigue andie staring at the hooded figure time seems to stop all around him, then a car drives past and he snaps out of it and leaves. Work it lots of quick cuts of writing, copying and stapling things.

Later at night anide is in bed camera over the top of him looking down at a birds eye  view, andie's eyes open and stood in the corner is the hooded figure with his hand out for andie, close up on andie taking his hand then andie awakes on the floor on top of the largest building in the city looking across the city with a pov panning shot, close up on the hooded figures hand on andie's shoulder he leans in close and whispers to andie and they the hooded figure pushes him off the roof and he awakes in his bed jumping up with the camera at the foot of the bed, andie slowly gets out of bed and walks to his bathroom and with marker or something writes something on the mirror which is out of focus until he is done and andie walks away

4th part is when andie gets an explanation about what is going to happen and how they have to stop it so they come up with a plan to stop the one known only as the destructor but when andie gets to cocky through the plan it causes the destructor to be able to kill the hooded figure and seriously injure andie,
Broken and injured the plan was to sneak up on one of the destructors meetings but when andie thinks he has won by not sure wether using a fake gun or just having a choreographed fight but andie underestimates him which causes the hooded figure to lose his life.

5th- Andie injured from the fight with the destructor goes to see his best friend vonn tannas and doesn't really say anything about what has happend they just have this talk about courage and never giving up etc .. when andie is leaving he notices a cut on vonn's neck similar to one which the destructor has which causes andie to become nervous and quickly leaves his house,

Finally andie awakes at his apartment after having a dream about him and the destructor lying at the bottom of a skyscraper. The sky a horrible mix of orange and red screams whistling through the air just like in andie's haunting dreams, andie look through his window to see the city n chaos it has begun and andie is the only one who can stop it, andie rushes to the street when he notices tannas industry in completely fine but it looks as if that is the chaoses origin point so he rushes over there.

Andie arrives at the roof of the tannas industry building to see the destructor up there back facing andie he demands to see his face as he begins to take of his mask andie's curiosity turns to shock and denial as it is revealed to be vonn his best friend who knew everything about this since the day he met andie and he had been preparing, andie and vonn have a choreographed  fight which ends up with vonn holding andie off the side of the building.Vonn gives andie time with a monologue about his plan and how he thought he could win and all that villain (antagonist) clique stuff, when andie remembers his dream about them both lying dead at the bottom of a skyscraper. All the sound goes all the audience can hear is andie's deep breaths in and out 3times until getting a tight grip on the destructor and jumps with them both falling andie silent eyes closed, cuts to black just as they are about to hit the floor then cuts to close up of andie's face at the bottom of the sky scrapper slowly panning up from the two dead bodies with a cut to black to end.

Unit 24 assignment 2 Treatment

My film is called The Awaking, and it is about a man named andie who is the hero of this epic adventure is just a normal smart guy with a hidden potential to be great, going to college with a worrying history of mental health issues which he takes lots of pills,

Until one day andie notices a strange hooded figure watching him and following his movements whatever he did. One night when andie is in bed he awakes, being watched by the hooded figure. He questions what he is doing there but before he get an answer he offers his hand for andie to take.Unkowning what will happen he takes the hand of the hooded figure which then causes andie to have a vision of the future and what is going to happen if he cannot prevent this.

Andie being shocked and scared by what he has seen tries to make himself believe that it was all a dream and it was fake etc etc ... a few days pass and nothing else happens until andie goes to see his parents about what happend to him but andie does not hear what he wants as they tell him that it is true and it is his purpose in life to stop the great disaster which is going to be caused by the one known only as the destructor, andie at first struggling with this information learns to accept it and works on how to start from discovering who the destructor is and how he can stop him and hopefully save the planet from the upcoming apocoyplse .

As andie is leaving Vonn house he notices a cut on his arm similar to the one he caused on the destructor the other night, andie still struggling on what todo next tries to sleep and rest a little when suddenly he has another vision/dream which shows anide confronting the destructor and shows both andie and the destructor lying dead at the bottom of the biggest building in the city Tannas industries. Andie awakes the next day to screams of fear and terror the sky a deep orange and red like blood and fire the city looks to have been hit by a meteor the destructor has started and andie only has little time left to stop him before its too late and the whole world is destroyed, andie rushing through the city notices the top of Tannas industries in completely fine and is curious as all the buildings around are almost complete rubble. Andie reaches the top of the tower to revel the figure which one day earlier had killed the hooded figure, the destructor turns to andie to revel his face andie is shocked to find out that the destructor is his lifelong best friend Vonn Tannas, andie confused questions Vonn and asks him whats going on, vonn in typical villain style completely explains his plan of being placed in anide's life and how he has waited for andie to be ready to try and stop him from destroying the world. Andie and vonn fight on the roof with andie being held of the edge by vonn again instead of just killing andie he just has to fit in one more monologue before he does, while this is happening andie has a flashback remembering his vision of him and vonn well the destructor lying dead at the bottom of tannas industries so he gets a grip on vonn and jumps of the building killing the destructor and saving the world. but the camera has a close up on andie's face panning up showing he is the only one lied on the ground, showing that all this was in his head and that they world would be better off if he had died.

The main setting will mostly be in a city and college  but some of the area which i cannot film will have to be done using a green screen and using after effects to put in the dreams and effects etc .... My short film will have a short cast with one hero one villain and one sort of helper and mentor also the parents of the protagonist i have put a more detail into the background of the main protagonist and antagonist more than the mentor and the parents of the protagonist, the reason i have done this as the film focuses more on what is happening in the lives of andie and vonn and just checks in with the other characters when either the antagonist or protagonist goes to see them. My main character and protagonist is called andie ovsair and is a regular guy with a history of bad mental health but other than that he is a regular guy works in a office nine to five and 5 days a week and doesn't really stand out from the crowd, everything changes for andie when he is visited by a figure in a black cloak. The antagonist in my short film is called vonn tannas or the destructor, he is the complete opposite of andie out going works in the same office as andie but is much much higher up than andie another thing which makes vonn different than andie is that he knows about everything with the destructor and how andie is going to try and stop him. The third character is a enigma or mystery, not much is given away to the audience not even the hooded figures name all that they know is that he is there to help andie stop the destructor from destroying the earth and causing an apocalypse. The fourth and final characters which the audience are introduced to are andie's parents adam and eve ovasiar who are genrally just like typical parents however through out the story it is always remaining unclear weather or not they know about what is going to happen and what anide's role is but they sometimes seem to give clues showing that they know but it is never known properly if they ever know everything.

The scripts main audience are sci-fi and thriller fans as it has lots of accepts which cross over into each of the genre's however another audience which the short film is aimed at would be fans of the film knowing with Nicholas cage (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448011/?ref_=nv_sr_3) as it adds the accept of visions and the apocalypse of the earth, it also adds the part of mysterious watchers in cloaks. The other film which highly influenced the audience would be donnie Darko ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578/?ref_=nv_sr_1) Which added the accept of supernatural, and visons etc .... So for the fans of both of those films they may enjoy the film as it is similar to films which they enjoyed, which they would add on to the sci-fi and thriller fan base as they both have similar genre's running through the film, however this may also make people not want to watch it as if you didn't like the films which is was like you wouldn't like films similar as the fan base would think they would be the same as the films they dislike and not watch them on that basses even though they may like the film. Other than that i think that would be the main audience i dont think i would focus on anything like social economic status or anything like that as i am aiming this at everyone it doesn't matter if your rich or poor just that you enjoy the style of film.

Unit 24 assignment 2 Research Diary

Cast

Andie- General looking guy (possibly student from college)
Vonn-Normal looking guy again (possibly someone from college with facial hair)
Mysterious figure-Someone tall and average/skinny weight)
Adam/Eve Ovsair -

Information about the theme and topic of my idea.

My idea falls between the genre of thriller and sci-fi as most of the storyline is based around supernatural things happening (visions of the future etc) but it also falls under the category of thriller as the film contains abit of action and doubts about weather or not Andie can acomlipish his task. One of the main films which influenced my idea were Knowing with Nicolas cage which added the idea of mysterious figures following the main protagonist about for the whole film, in knowing the hooded figures are evil and wanting to hurt the main protagonist but in my film the hooded figure at first is shown to be trying to stop anide but then the audience finds out that he is trying to help anide in his mission.

I chose andie to be a office worker as you can see in this website http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20428990_10,00.html it tells that one of the most depressing jobs with the highest rates of depression which would back up the idea of andie being depressed,

The topic is very different than other films similar to this idea even though it has some of the same ideas the film is not very clear and constantly miss leads the audience from who is good who is bad who is trying to help andie and who is trying to stop him. This draws the audience to find out what happens at the end of the film and how these problems are solved as halfway through the film it is left on a cliff hanger with the audience not knowing if andie has died or not, but it turns out that the hooded figure has sacrificed himself to save andie which causes andie to give up hope in himself and think that he cannot accomplish the incredible task without the guidance of the hooded figure.

Lots of locations are available to use in the filming of my film as the majority of the film will be done using a green screen to get all the effects and backgrounds which are needed in the film so that it makes sense, however the one location which may be difficult to film in will be the office building as up to know i only have got anide in the office building once and thats walking in and out at the end of the day to show how his life was on a boring routine until this one day. The other scenes which i want to film will be quite easy as there are in a bedroom and up high in the hills the only parts which will need a green screen will be when andie has a vision of the earth when the apocalypses has struck and on the top of a sky scraper.

If i do not have enough footage with all the scences which i do i will try and add some panning shots to give the audience an idea of where he is and where he is going etc... just to inform the audience of some of the main city landmarks like statues and buildings. Most of the locations which i am using will look normal but i am going to put probably a dark color wash to make them seem more gloomy and borning and reflect to the audience how andie is feeling and how boring his life is.

I think the main audience of my film would be aimed at sci-fi mystery fans as the main focus of the film is the sci fi/ supernatural themes this would probably draw fans of donnie Darko and knowing as it has lots of similar films with both of the films so the audiences of both those films may be interested in a film similar to them, another audience in which the film is aimed at is the sci-fi audience just fans of all sci-fi films as it may appeal to them being a sci-fi film with some accepts of thriller films.  My film isn't particularly aimed at one particular social group however it will stand out more Sci-fi fans than any other like drama or comedy fans, the film is aimed to be for all age groups and most social economy groups at both ends of poor and wealthy.

However i think it would have to be aimed at a particular audience of sci fi fans as there are lots of different groups such as trekkeis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_fandom)
This link is helpful as it shows the different types of sci-fi fans and what particular ones will enjoy and what other will enjoy watching such as trekkies are mainly focused on watching star trek and some related to star trek so most parts of my film would not appeal to the trekkies which would lose one of the largest sci-fi fans.
and star wars fans such as whovians for dr who (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/Whovian)
Again this being similar with trekkies whovians make up a large majority of sci-fi fans and are mainly focused on things todo with doctor who and would again find most of my film not to there particular taste in sci-fi but if something in my film linked with they such as the things similar to donnie Darko and knowing so the fans of those films would probably enjoy the film as it has lots of similar style's in from there favourite sci-fi
so i wouldn't particularly aim my film at these fans and similar ones as they like the sci-fi aspects in star trek and dr who and so and so, therefore i would aim it more at fans of present time sci-fi and people who enjoy mystery and thriller building suspense. As i looked through websites about the whovians and trekkies i found out that they like that specific type of sci-fi and probably wouldn't enjoy the film in which i was making as it wouldn't fit the criteria of what they enjoy watching in a sci-fi film so they wouldn't enjoy watching it thats why i'm trying to appeal to more to the individuals and less from mainstream, to people who enjoyed watching knowing and donnie Darko than other sci-fi films.
