unit 24 assignment 2 scene by scene breakdown

The first scene begins with a close up on anide's face with him narrating how he hasn't been sleeping and he says about his life how he has had his best friend vonn all of his life and says about his parents. then  he tells us where he works with a cut to a skyscraper and then cuts to anide at the copying the machine in a scruffy/ baggy shirt and tie, cuts back to andie then close up on andie's name on pill bottle with a focus out when andie picks them up tells the audience how he has been taking the pills to help his mental health and then cuts to him in therapy and then a slide away transition shot back to the present then andie says this is how my story actually began and ended.

Andie leaving for work looks across to see a hooded figure close up on andie's face showing confusion and intrigue andie staring at the hooded figure time seems to stop all around him, then a car drives past and he snaps out of it and leaves. Work it lots of quick cuts of writing, copying and stapling things.

Later at night anide is in bed camera over the top of him looking down at a birds eye  view, andie's eyes open and stood in the corner is the hooded figure with his hand out for andie, close up on andie taking his hand then andie awakes on the floor on top of the largest building in the city looking across the city with a pov panning shot, close up on the hooded figures hand on andie's shoulder he leans in close and whispers to andie and they the hooded figure pushes him off the roof and he awakes in his bed jumping up with the camera at the foot of the bed, andie slowly gets out of bed and walks to his bathroom and with marker or something writes something on the mirror which is out of focus until he is done and andie walks away

4th part is when andie gets an explanation about what is going to happen and how they have to stop it so they come up with a plan to stop the one known only as the destructor but when andie gets to cocky through the plan it causes the destructor to be able to kill the hooded figure and seriously injure andie,
Broken and injured the plan was to sneak up on one of the destructors meetings but when andie thinks he has won by not sure wether using a fake gun or just having a choreographed fight but andie underestimates him which causes the hooded figure to lose his life.

5th- Andie injured from the fight with the destructor goes to see his best friend vonn tannas and doesn't really say anything about what has happend they just have this talk about courage and never giving up etc .. when andie is leaving he notices a cut on vonn's neck similar to one which the destructor has which causes andie to become nervous and quickly leaves his house,

Finally andie awakes at his apartment after having a dream about him and the destructor lying at the bottom of a skyscraper. The sky a horrible mix of orange and red screams whistling through the air just like in andie's haunting dreams, andie look through his window to see the city n chaos it has begun and andie is the only one who can stop it, andie rushes to the street when he notices tannas industry in completely fine but it looks as if that is the chaoses origin point so he rushes over there.

Andie arrives at the roof of the tannas industry building to see the destructor up there back facing andie he demands to see his face as he begins to take of his mask andie's curiosity turns to shock and denial as it is revealed to be vonn his best friend who knew everything about this since the day he met andie and he had been preparing, andie and vonn have a choreographed  fight which ends up with vonn holding andie off the side of the building.Vonn gives andie time with a monologue about his plan and how he thought he could win and all that villain (antagonist) clique stuff, when andie remembers his dream about them both lying dead at the bottom of a skyscraper.All the sound goes all the audience can hear is andie's deep breaths in and out 3times until getting a tight grip on the destructor and jumps with them both falling andie silent eyes closed, cuts to black just as they are about to hit the floor then cuts to close up of andie's face at the bottom of the sky scrapper slowly panning up from the two dead bodies with a cut to black to end.

Unit 24 assignment 2 Treatment

My film is called The Awaking, and it is about a man named andie who is the hero of this epic adventure is just a normal smart guy with a hidden potential to be great, going to college with a worrying history of mental health issues which he takes lots of pills,

Until one day andie notices a strange hooded figure watching him and following his movements whatever he did. One night when andie is in bed he awakes, being watched by the hooded figure. He questions what he is doing there but before he get an answer he offers his hand for andie to take.Unkowning what will happen he takes the hand of the hooded figure which then causes andie to have a vision of the future and what is going to happen if he cannot prevent this.

 Andie being shocked and scared by what he has seen tries to make himself believe that it was all a dream and it was fake etc etc ... a few days pass and nothing else happens until andie goes to see his parents about what happend to him but andie does not hear what he wants as they tell him that it is true and it is his purpose in life to stop the great disaster which is going to be caused by the one known only as the destructor, andie at first struggling with this information learns to accept it and works on how to start from discovering who the destructor is and how he can stop him and hopefully save the planet from the upcoming apocoyplse .

As andie is leaving Vonn house he notices a cut on his arm similar to the one he caused on the destructor the other night, andie still struggling on what todo next tries to sleep and rest a little when suddenly he has another vision/dream which shows anide confronting the destructor and shows both andie and the destructor lying dead at the bottom of the biggest building in the city Tannas industries. Andie awakes the next day to screams of fear and terror the sky a deep orange and red like blood and fire the city looks to have been hit by a meteor the destructor has started and andie only has little time left to stop him before its too late and the whole world is destroyed, andie rushing through the city notices the top of Tannas industries in completely fine and is curious as all the buildings around are almost complete rubble. Andie reaches the top of the tower to revel the figure which one day earlier had killed the hooded figure, the destructor turns to andie to revel his face andie is shocked to find out that the destructor is his lifelong best friend Vonn Tannas, andie confused questions Vonn and asks him whats going on, vonn in typical villain style completely explains his plan of being placed in anide's life and how he has waited for andie to be ready to try and stop him from destroying the world. Andie and vonn fight on the roof with andie being held of the edge by vonn again instead of just killing andie he just has to fit in one more monologue before he does, while this is happening andie has a flashback remembering his vision of him and vonn well the destructor lying dead at the bottom of tannas industries so he gets a grip on vonn and jumps of the building killing the destructor and saving the world. but the camera has a close up on andie's face panning up showing he is the only one lied on the ground, showing that all this was in his head and that they world would be better off if he had died.

 The main setting will mostly be in a city and college  but some of the area which i cannot film will have to be done using a green screen and using after effects to put in the dreams and effects etc .... My short film will have a short cast with one hero one villain and one sort of helper and mentor also the parents of the protagonist i have put a more detail into the background of the main protagonist and antagonist more than the mentor and the parents of the protagonist, the reason i have done this as the film focuses more on what is happening in the lives of andie and vonn and just checks in with the other characters when either the antagonist or protagonist goes to see them. My main character and protagonist is called andie ovsair and is a regular guy with a history of bad mental health but other than that he is a regular guy works in a office nine to five and 5 days a week and doesn't really stand out from the crowd, everything changes for andie when he is visited by a figure in a black cloak. The antagonist in my short film is called vonn tannas or the destructor, he is the complete opposite of andie out going works in the same office as andie but is much much higher up than andie another thing which makes vonn different than andie is that he knows about everything with the destructor and how andie is going to try and stop him. The third character is a enigma or mystery, not much is given away to the audience not even the hooded figures name all that they know is that he is there to help andie stop the destructor from destroying the earth and causing an apocalypse. The fourth and final characters which the audience are introduced to are andie's parents adam and eve ovasiar who are genrally just like typical parents however through out the story it is always remaining unclear weather or not they know about what is going to happen and what anide's role is but they sometimes seem to give clues showing that they know but it is never known properly if they ever know everything.

The scripts main audience are sci-fi and thriller fans as it has lots of accepts which cross over into each of the genre's however another audience which the short film is aimed at would be fans of the film knowing with Nicholas cage (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448011/?ref_=nv_sr_3) as it adds the accept of visions and the apocalypse of the earth, it also adds the part of mysterious watchers in cloaks. The other film which highly influenced the audience would be donnie Darko ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578/?ref_=nv_sr_1) Which added the accept of supernatural, and visons etc .... So for the fans of both of those films they may enjoy the film as it is similar to films which they enjoyed, which they would add on to the sci-fi and thriller fan base as they both have similar genre's running through the film, however this may also make people not want to watch it as if you didn't like the films which is was like you wouldn't like films similar as the fan base would think they would be the same as the films they dislike and not watch them on that basses even though they may like the film. Other than that i think that would be the main audience i dont think i would focus on anything like social economic status or anything like that as i am aiming this at everyone it doesn't matter if your rich or poor just that you enjoy the style of film.

Information about the theme and topic of my idea.

My idea falls between the genre of thriller and sci-fi as most of the storyline is based around supernatural things happening (visions of the future etc) but it also falls under the category of thriller as the film contains abit of action and doubts about weather or not Andie can acomlipish his task. One of the main films which influenced my idea were Knowing with Nicolas cage which added the idea of mysterious figures following the main protagonist about for the whole film, in knowing the hooded figures are evil and wanting to hurt the main protagonist but in my film the hooded figure at first is shown to be trying to stop anide but then the audience finds out that he is trying to help anide in his mission.







I chose andie to be a office worker as you can see in this website http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20428990_10,00.html it tells that one of the most depressing jobs with the highest rates of depression which would back up the idea of andie being depressed,



The topic is very different than other films similar to this idea even though it has some of the same ideas the film is not very clear and constantly miss leads the audience from who is good who is bad who is trying to help andie and who is trying to stop him. This draws the audience to find out what happens at the end of the film and how these problems are solved as halfway through the film it is left on a cliff hanger with the audience not knowing if andie has died or not, but it turns out that the hooded figure has sacrificed himself to save andie which causes andie to give up hope in himself and think that he cannot accomplish the incredible task without the guidance of the hooded figure.

Lots of locations are available to use in the filming of my film as the majority of the film will be done using a green screen to get all the effects and backgrounds which are needed in the film so that it makes sense, however the one location which may be difficult to film in will be the office building as up to know i only have got anide in the office building once and thats walking in and out at the end of the day to show how his life was on a boring routine until this one day. The other scenes which i want to film will be quite easy as there are in a bedroom and up high in the hills the only parts which will need a green screen will be when andie has a vision of the earth when the apocalypses has struck and on the top of a sky scraper.

If i do not have enough footage with all the scences which i do i will try and add some panning shots to give the audience an idea of where he is and where he is going etc... just to inform the audience of some of the main city landmarks like statues and buildings. Most of the locations which i am using will look normal but i am going to put probably a dark color wash to make them seem more gloomy and borning and reflect to the audience how andie is feeling and how boring his life is.


I think the main audience of my film would be aimed at sci-fi mystery fans as the main focus of the film is the sci fi/ supernatural themes this would probably draw fans of donnie Darko and knowing as it has lots of similar films with both of the films so the audiences of both those films may be interested in a film similar to them, another audience in which the film is aimed at is the sci-fi audience just fans of all sci-fi films as it may appeal to them being a sci-fi film with some accepts of thriller films.  My film isn't particularly aimed at one particular social group however it will stand out more Sci-fi fans than any other like drama or comedy fans, the film is aimed to be for all age groups and most social economy groups at both ends of poor and wealthy.

However i think it would have to be aimed at a particular audience of sci fi fans as there are lots of different groups such as trekkeis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_fandom)
This link is helpful as it shows the different types of sci-fi fans and what particular ones will enjoy and what other will enjoy watching such as trekkies are mainly focused on watching star trek and some related to star trek so most parts of my film would not appeal to the trekkies which would lose one of the largest sci-fi fans.

Again this being similar with trekkies whovians make up a large majority of sci-fi fans and are mainly focused on things todo with doctor who and would again find most of my film not to there particular taste in sci-fi but if something in my film linked with they such as the things similar to donnie Darko and knowing so the fans of those films would probably enjoy the film as it has lots of similar style's in from there favourite sci-fi
 so i wouldn't particularly aim my film at these fans and similar ones as they like the sci-fi aspects in star trek and dr who and so and so, therefore i would aim it more at fans of present time sci-fi and people who enjoy mystery and thriller building suspense. As i looked through websites about the whovians and trekkies i found out that they like that specific type of sci-fi and probably wouldn't enjoy the film in which i was making as it wouldn't fit the criteria of what they enjoy watching in a sci-fi film so they wouldn't enjoy watching it thats why i'm trying to appeal to more to the individuals and less from mainstream, to people who enjoyed watching knowing and donnie Darko than other sci-fi films.

Unit 22 assignment 1 single camera production

What is a single camera production and why we use it ?  A single camera production is a program or film which is filmed with one camera for the whole thing. Using a single camera can have lots of positives to the film making process such as the cost is much cheaper so that the money which they have can be put into other parts of the programme like the special effects etc ... another positive of a single camera production would be that  it would make it easier to film in smaller places as you cannot fit multiple big camera's into a small room but with one camera it makes it easier to film at different and smaller angles. Another positive of using a single camera is that it makes the actors to be more chilled out and proform better on the program/ film which will make the programme/ film better as if there were multiple camera's and lots of lights glaring at the actor it could make them uncomfortable and nervous.

Comparison with multicamera 

However compared to multi camera productions it also has lots of negatives such as it can take much longer with a single camera as it would take a while to get multiple shots of the same scene from lots of different angles which would cause lots of time to be wasted filming the same film over and over multiple times, another negative would be how long it would take to go through the footage and then edit all the bad takes out but then have to get all the different clips and put them all together so that they fit and feel in place and so the production looks more professional and polished. The next negative of single camera productions would be how long it would take to fix a problem with the filming as if you had multiple cameras you would just be able to replace the shot with one from another angle and fix the problem in 2 mins but if you were using single camera you would have to film the whole scene again
causing lots of time to be wasted just to save a little money in production costs. 

Formats 

There are many different formats in which single camera productions can be such as serial production which is a production which runs over several nights with abit more of the plot unfolding in each episode telling the audience what happens over multiple parts an example of this would be Charlie brokers black mirror, another format which single camera productions can be filmed in is series which is usually on for over a year and has a set time on which it is on every week which follows one plot until the series ends an example of this would be Doctor who or Waterloo road. The next format of single camera production would be a one of which is a production which is only on once like how video games changed the world and our girl which is about a woman solider. All of these shows use single camera productions as it helps the audience focus on one thing which is happening and is very important to the show or gives some form of key plot point to the show which could change the show drastically. 

What is narrative structure ? 

Narrative structure is the frame of the narrative which decides the order of the narrative and how things happen and in which order it is presented to the audience there are two different parts of narrative structure which are linear which the narrative is arranged in sequential and chronological order with a revelation at the end but it might not always have a resolution if it isn't serial, this makes the programme much easier to understand to the audience as it is in the correct order and is the most simple way to have a programme, however non linear is the exact opposite of linear and the show is not in chronological order and makes the programme or film  more complicated to follow, such as in daredevil film it starts of at the end of the film and goes back to the start to explain how he ended up where he did.
Another part is how the programme or film ends and weather or not it is open or closed for example dr who always has an ending of the problem at each episode but shows like hollyoaks most of the time end on a cliff hanger so that people watch the next episode to find out what happend, another thing in which shows do as if you didn't watch the previous episode in something with a cliff hanger they will sometimes have flashbacks to inform the audience about what they missed in the last episode and why someone is dead or something like that has now happened in the latest episode.

A good example of narrative structures would be in the film daredevil as the film starts off with daredevil being on top of a church roof and narating how the story came to this part then as the film goes through it leads up to how daredevil ended up on top of the roof, another example is the film contains lots of different flashback parts showing how the story got to the part where it did and shows his childhood and how he became daredevil. The film is also non linear as it starts at the end of the film going back to the start and then going to the middle kind of which makes the storyline more confusing and unclear to the audience.

Another example of a narrative structure would be in the film pirates of the Caribbean dead mans chest, which ends with Jack sparrow stabbing into the krakens mouth with his fate unknown this is a good technique used in lots of different and good films. This technique is good as it makes the audience wonder what happend in this case to jack and did he survive and if so how etc.... this also helps the film to get more views as if you saw the last film with the setting up of the cliff hanger you will feel obligated to find out how it was resolved.

What is technical code ? 
The different ways in which film makers tell different stories with technical codes are with how the light and shoot each scene as if the scene had a very low key lighting and very low camera angles in would clearly show the audience that the scene is either surrposed to be scary and make the audience feel scared and worried about what is going happen but then if another scene is very bright with lots of bright colours and with a mid camera shot would make the audience feel that the scene is meant to be happy and to make the audience fell happy using all the bright and light colours giving the scene a very high colour key. Also if the scene had a very erie and jumpy sound o in the background you wouldn't think that it was a happy scene you as the audience would instantly link it with scary and bad,  but if the song in the background was all happy and cheery you would link it as being a happy and nice scene. The mise-en-scene of the scene again would be the same if you saw someone in dark blood-soaked clothing you again wouldn't link it with happy and nice things you'd link it with dark and evil things and the opposite if someone was in bright and clean clothing you'd again link it with happy and nice things and not think of anything else. A good example of this is arrested development which uses lots of bright and bland colours to show that the show is meant to be nice and doesn't really have a happy tone but more of a boring one to show how the characters feel by showing there emotions in the colour wash.

My Opinion 
My opinion on single camera production is that in some cases in can be the best option for the programme or film which is being produced but it isn't always the best option as it takes much longer using a single camera to film the media product and then even longer to edit as there would be at least 2x more footage at least to go through and if a mistake is made on multicamera production you can just use another camera shot from another angle but if you film something wrong on a single camera production you would have to re film the scene which again would waste more time and which could be used in a more important part of the production like the editing for example, so in my opinion i do feel for some productions it is the best choice as it is easier to film in an enclosed space but has many problems so if i had to choice between single and multi camera production i would choice multi as it would make the production look more professional and polished and it would save lots of time in the editing process.

A media production which uses only one camera to film everything with. 

One of the reasons why one camera is expense and how much good camera's can cost, as if you got more camera's you would have to hire less crew which would make the media product harder to produce with less people. Another reason why would be the proformance and it would make the actors job easier by them knowing when to act better when the camera is focused on them. The third reason is the location which the production is being filmed at and the location may not be able to support and lots of big and massive camera's which makes it is easier using single camera productions.

Andie is just a regular guy working at a office job and one of the most conformist people in society never doing anything to get noticed or breaking any rules, with a past of mental issues andie has to take drugs to keep his mental state calm. Andie is 27 years old living by himself in a small apartment, he see's a thearpyist twice aweek and takes mutilple pills a day to stop his delusional paranoia from casuing him stress and trouble even though andie still has trouble sleeping every night and the pills dont really do anything to help. Andie has both of his parents still alive and well Adam ovsair and Eve ovsair he also has a best friend who he has been friends with since he can remeber his name is vonn tanas. 

Vonn Tanas 

Vonn has been friends with andie for as long as they can both remember, vonn however knowing why andie is always so mentally strange and different and what his true purpose being to stop himself (the destructor) from bringing the apocalypse to earth. Vonn works with andie but is completly different when he was younger he was always getting in trouble as school and with the law and being litrerally the complete oppiste of a conformist and completly different than andie but for some reason they became friends, vonn only recently found out that andie was the saviour and that he plans to stop what he is doing but vonn decides to let andie try and stop him and see what plays out. Vonn is the same age as andie and lives alone also.

Adam and Eve Ovsair 

Andie's parents are not really key to the story apart from they know andie's true purpose but chose to keep it a secret hoping he would never have to learn the truth and that he can have a normal life. Adam and Eve live in the suburbs at andie's childhood home both his parents are about 55 years old.

So andie must find the one known only as the destructor stop him and then try and save himself from falling to his death but is all of this real or is andie just dreaming the whole thing up in his head and he has finally gone completely insane.

First act
the intro is andie is going to college and notices a hooded figure watching him all day and andie notices him and is worried about what he wants and what he is going todo with andie, andie awakes in the night in a sort of dream state with the hooded figure over him but before andie can say anything the hooded figure holds his hand out to andie for him to take, andie unknowing what will happen takes his hand a suddenly awakens in a chaos ridden streets of his city. He suddenly awakes in his bed springing up dismissing what he saw as a dream and that nothing will come of it.
Second act 
Andie goes to talk to his parents about what happened and it is not clear weather or not they know about what anide must do, andie them summons the hooded figure and he tell andie about what is going to happen and how he can stop it.  Having to discover who the destructor is and finding out how to stop him almost beets andie but then he discovers that the whole time it has been his best friend vonn tanas so the hooded figure and andie make a plan to stop and destroy the destructor which goes horribly wrong killing the hooded figure (CONFRONTATION/SOLUTION AND LOWEST POINT)

Third act 
andie then having a dream to try and sort out his head has a dream about him and the destrutor falling from a tall skyscraper and lying dead at the bottom when he is startled by a loud bang, the destructor has begun and andie rushes to the building where all the chaos seem to be originating.
